I absolutely love this character! The sumi brush wings, and tail is brilliant, and I wish I had thought up this (ultra artistic) character!
I did it very fast (When I paint on canvas, it is very fast. Total time on this was about two hours. People have told me that when they watched me do it, I was a blur to them). Anyway, I have found it to be a little different to keep the kinetic energies intact while doing digital painting. This painting I did without any pre-sketch or any real preliminary idea at all. I just sat down with a blank computer screen (canvas) in front of me, and began to paint. I wanted it to look like a "painting" so I left as many "brush-strokes" intact as possible. I was hoping to capture some kinetic energy in it. I wanted people to look at this as a painting, not just another sleek graphic representation, or poor attempt at the sumi style.
